Description
Verify® Thyroid Self Test
🧠 What is the Thyroid Self Test?
It is a rapid capillary blood test that measures the concentration of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), a key indicator of thyroid function.
High TSH → possible hypothyroidism (slow thyroid).
Low TSH → possible hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).
📌 Warning: This test is not diagnostic, but it provides a useful indication to be further investigated with your doctor.
🧪 How the Test Works
Prick your fingertip with the sterile lancet provided.
Collect a drop of blood with the pipette.
Place the sample in the test cassette.
Add the reagent.
Wait 10–15 minutes.
Results:
Visible lines Meaning
1 control line Invalid test
2 visible lines High or abnormal TSH → possible dysfunction
Only 1 line (test + control) Normal TSH
👉 Some tests offer a TSH reference range (e.g., normal if between 0.4 and 4.5 μIU/ml).
📅 When to Do It
If you have suspicious symptoms:
Hypothyroidism: tiredness, weight gain, feeling cold, dry skin, irregular periods.
Hyperthyroidism: weight loss, tachycardia, sweating, nervousness, insomnia.
If you have a family history of thyroid problems.
During pregnancy (on medical advice).
As a periodic monitoring, if you are undergoing thyroid therapy.
✅ Advantages
Easy to do at home.
Non-invasive, quick.
Good early screening tool, especially in the absence of clear symptoms.
⚠️ Limits
The test detects only TSH, not T3, T4, or autoantibody values.
False positives or negatives are possible (e.g. in case of stress, medications, pregnancy).
If positive or if symptoms persist → complete blood tests in the laboratory + endocrinological evaluation.
🧑⚕️ What to Do After the Test
Positive: book a complete test (TSH, FT3, FT4 ± anti-TPO/anti-Tg antibodies) and consult your doctor.
Negative, but you have symptoms: Consider further testing, as TSH alone does not rule out all underlying conditions.
