Description
Verify® Self Test Urinary Tract Infections
🦠 What is the Urinary Tract Self-Test?
It is a urine strip test that detects the presence of infection markers in the urine, in particular:
Leukocytes (white blood cells) → sign of inflammation/infection
Nitrites → indicate the presence of Gram-negative bacteria (e.g. E. coli)
Other optional parameters (depending on the test): blood, protein, pH, glucose, ketones
📌 It is useful for identifying cystitis, pyelonephritis, or for monitoring subjects at risk (e.g. women, the elderly, catheterized patients).
🧪 How It Works
Collect a morning urine sample in a clean container.
Immerse the test strip for 1–2 seconds.
Wait 1–2 minutes.
Compare the developed colors with the provided table.
Each square changes color based on the detected parameter (e.g. pink → purple for leukocytes).
📊 Interpretation of Results
Parameter Meaning
Leukocytes Positive = infection/inflammation
Nitrites Positive = probable bacterial infection
Blood (erythrocytes) It may indicate cystitis, stones, trauma
altered pH > 7.5 can promote infections
Proteins Abnormal presence → evaluate with doctor
✅ The test is positive if one or more of these parameters are altered → consult your doctor for confirmation and treatment.
🧑⚕️ When to Do It
Classic symptoms:
Burning during urination
Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
Increased urinary frequency
Lower abdominal pain
Monitoring of recurrent cystitis
Check-up after antibiotic treatment
During pregnancy (on medical advice)
UTI only (leukocytes + nitrites)
Multi-valued (10-11 parameters)
✅ Advantages
Fast, economical, non-invasive
Useful for preventive screening and self-monitoring
Reduces unnecessary visits or antibiotic abuse
⚠️ Limits
It does not identify the type of bacteria (urine culture is required for this).
A negative result does not 100% rule out infection.
False positives/negatives possible if:
Urine too dilute
Old sample
Presence of disinfectants or detergents
🧠 What to Do After the Test
Positive → contact your doctor for confirmation (e.g. urine culture) and treatment.
Negative, but symptoms persist → exclude other causes (vaginitis, interstitial cystitis, stones).
